Project SPARKS
State Parks as Resources for Knowledge in Science
The Twin Ports area is fortunate to have easily accessible state parks and public lands that provide windows into the Northland's geologic past, not to mention the ability to explore the region's unique ecology. Project SPARKS was initiated to develop an educational program that utilizes the state parks as outdoor classrooms. In this program, the parks serve as the context for exploring topics in science and math that are interdisciplinary and appropriate for different grade levels. |
Field excursions and curriculum ideas for activities have been developed for Amnicon Falls State Park. Programs are in various stages of development for Pattison State Park, Thompson Dam and Jay Cooke State Park, Skyline Drive, Spirit Mountain and the North Shore Scenic Drive. |

Project SPARKS is a four year initiative to provide outdoor laboratories where students can have an educational experience exploring science and math concepts in their own backyard. Hopefully, these excursions will be the "hook" that enhances their observation and discover skills for a lifetime! |
| Under Construction. Available soon, downloadable copies of the complete field excursion to Amnicon Park and curriculum study ideas. | |
