1. Minutes
Minutes of the meeting of May 14th, 2004 were approved. Marshall will distribute the minutes of September 17th, 2004 via e-mail.
2. Changes to our review criteria – a faculty member from Portland State University who has published on program review at small liberal arts colleges will be presenting on campus in two weeks. Lisa Larson is still working on arranging a presenter on assessment from Alverno College.
Stewart suggested having one or more council members attend a department chairs meeting for a discussion. Stewart will arrange with Mary Noyes.
3. Council responsibilities – Peter shared our concerns with Faculty Senate and told them specifics will be coming. Stewart suggested academic program review should be done by a subcommittee of Academic Affairs Council
Motion (Peter, Marshall) to present the two restructuring options we have discussed to Faculty Senate, to address the difficulty of carrying out timely and effective academic program reviews:
Option 1: Assign planning and budget duties to other councils. Current PBRC would become the Academic Program Review Council.
Option 2: Make program review a function of a subcommittee of the Academic Affairs Council. Current PBRC would become the Planning and Budget Council.
Motion passed.
4. Current programs reviews – Maureen and Marshall distributed Sections 2 & 3 of Distance Learning Center review. Peter will edit the final draft.
5. Next meeting: October 1, 3 PM. We will take up the Transportation & Logistics review. Section writing assignments: Pamela 1, Marshall 2, Stewart 3, Gail 4, Peter 5, Maureen 6.
Respectfully submitted
Peter Nordgren
