REPORTS.
Chair--Bob Carmack. No report.
Secretary--Hal Bertilson. Three action memoranda were approved by Chancellor Erlenbach: (1) the proposal to change Math 101 to a three-credit remedial course, (2) Proposed revision to the Honors Graduation Policy, and (3) Proposal to require students who enter UW-Superior as freshmen to complete the core requirements in the first 75 credits with the caveat that all advisors must make new incoming students aware of this requirement. One action item was not approved. Chancellor Erlenbach did not approve the proposal to all freshmen to register for up to eighteen credits without an advisors approval. Chancellor Erlenbach's concern with this recommendation centers around the importance of a student's first semester experience for long-term retention at UW-Superior. He would prefer that freshmen register for no more than 15 credits without an advisor's approval.
Correspondence--Hal Bertilson. No report.
Faculty Representative--David Beran. No report.
Planning, Budgeting and Review Council--Mike Wallschlaeger. No report.
Personnel Council--Ronald Mershart. No report.
Academic Affairs Council--Tim Cummings. The Academic Affairs Council will meet February 8. It is likely that the Writing Across the Curriculum proposal will be taken off the table. Tim Cummings estimates that 22-23 sections would be necessary to meet this proposed requirement.
Student Senate--Chris Voltzke. No report.
Academic Staff Senate-Donna Quinn. A mentoring program for junior academic staff is being developed. The Academic Staff Senate is working on rights and responsibilities.
