FACULTY SENATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
October 5, 2004
RSC 111, 2:30 PM
PRESENT: Hal Bertilson, David Carroll, Martha Einerson, Gail Craig, Nick Sloboda, Gloria Toivola, Chip Beal, Suzanne Griffith, and Chenthuran Jayachandiran.
MINUTES: Motion (M. Einerson/N. Sloboda) to approve the September 7 Faculty Senate Executive Committee minutes passed.
PLAN 2008: Chip Beal distributed an Executive Summary and discussed it with the Executive Committee.
S.P.I.C.E. PROGRAM: Chenthuran Jayachandiran and Jennifer Bird distributed handouts regarding SPICE. The intent is to promote faculty-student interaction in the residence halls. They will create a program that will promote the interaction. Motion (G. Toivola/M. Einerson) to endorse and support the S.P.I.C.E. Program and encourage faculty to volunteer and actively participate passed.
COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS: Gail Craig has been elected Chair of the Planning, Budgeting, and Review Committee. By a motion of the Executive Committee (G. Toivola/M. Einerson) she has been replaced on the Institutional Review Board by Orv Clark.
PLANNING COMMITTEE : Motion (G. Toivola/N. Sloboda) to appoint Hal Bertilson, Orv Clark, Suzanne Griffith. Peter Nordgren. Deborah Schlacks, Cecilia Schrenker, Chad Scott, Richard Stewart, and Mary Pulford to the Planning Committee for the New Academic Building passed. Suzanne Griffith reviewed with the Executive Committee Day Care, Health Care, and Status of Women issues.
REINSTATEMENT COMMITTEE: Discussion of the Reinstatement Committee was deferred until the November Executive Committee meeting.
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: Motion (H. Bertilson/M. Einerson) to endorse the proposed Inclement Weather Policy passed.
TUITION ISSUE FOR LOW INCOME STUDENTS: Motion (N. Sloboda/G. Toivola) to endorse the resolution on Tuition Issues for Low Income Students passed.
INCLUSIVITY INITIATIVE: Motion (G. Toivola/M. Einerson) to endorse the Inclusivity Initiative passed. This resolution has been passed unanimously by the Academic Staff Senate.
OCTOBER SENATE MEETING: The chairs report will include the Plan 2008 Executive Summary. New Business will include the S.P.I.C.E. Program, Senate Charter Review, Inclement Weather Policy, Tuition Issue for Low Income Students, and the Inclusivity Initiative.
NOVEMBER SENATE MEETING: The agenda for the November Faculty Senate meeting will include (a) the Personnel Council review of Departmental Personnel Rules and Plan 2008.
