MINUTES: Motion (M. Einerson/N. Sloboda) to approve the July 13 Faculty Senate Executive Committee minutes as revised passed.
COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS: Some changes were made to committee assignments. Concerns were raised about faculty autonomy in appointing (no recommending) faculty representation on university committees. And that chairs are normally elected. Faculty Chair Carroll will discuss the Honors Committee with Provost Prior.
ARTS ADMINISTRATION CONCENTRATION: On August 23rd, Registrar Erickson asked whether the Arts Administration Concentration had been approved by the Graduate Council. T. Kronzer will check to be sure it passed the Graduate Council.
PARKING TASK FORCE REPORT: The Parking Task Force Report will be placed on the agenda for the September Faculty Senate meeting.
PLAN 2008: Faculty Chair Carroll described the composition of the Plan 2008 Committee. The report from the committee needs to come to the Senate in October and approved by the Senate in November.
LIBERAL ARTS TASK FORCE: The Liberal Arts Task Force has recommended the following five areas of study: (1) First-year experience, (2) Writing across the curriculum with supportive Writing Center, (3) Global Awareness, (4) Community Service Learning, and (5) Senior Capstone. These recommendations will be discussed in an open forum at the faculty meeting on 8-26-04.
NCAA WORKING GROUPS AND LIBERAL ARTS TASK FORCE: J. Sipress will be invited to the September 7 Executive Committee meeting to discuss coordination between the NCAA Working Groups and the Liberal Arts Task Force.
STAGGERED TERMS FOR COMMITTEES: Staggered terms for committees were discussed. All faculty will be emailed in October to know their interest in their committees having staggered terms.
NEW FACULTY ORIENTATION: Members of the Executive Committee are invited to the lunch for New Faculty Orientation to discuss faculty governance. RSVP Sharon Sullivan if we plan to attend at noon, Monday, August 30, in the Danielson Room.
ADJOURNED.
