MINUTES
FACULTY SENATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
April 27, 2004
PRESENT: Hal Bertilson, Tim Cummings, Terri Kronzer, Peter Nordgren, Nick Sloboda, Joel Sipress, and Gloria Toivola.
PROMOTION COMMITTEE: There was only one volunteer for the volunteer committee. Often we get additional volunteers when the call for committees is released. It was agreed that we will get a larger pool of volunteers if we delay the appointment of the Promotion Committee until the time that all committee requests are reviewed.
DUTIES OF THE FACULTY SENATE SECRETARY: H. Bertilson prepared a job description for the Faculty Senate Secretary Position.
REPORT OF THE FACULTY CHAIR:
a. CONCERNS ABOUT THE 2001 FACULTY HANDBOOK: T. Cummings and J. Sipress will prepare an email message to Senators and the message will be included in the Faculty Chair's report to the Senate next Tuesday.
b. SPBC: Motion (H. Bertilson/G. Toivola) to recommend Orv Clark and David Carroll as the new faculty members for the SPBC. J. Sipress will prepare a memo for the Senate packet.
c. TASK FORCE REPORT: Motion (T. Cummings/N. Sloboda) to have the Task Force Report on the Liberal Arts Mission discussed as an open forum immediately following the opening session at Welcome Week and on the agenda for the first Faculty Senate meeting in the fall.
PERSONNEL COUNCIL: Eight sets of department rules meet the standards. One set does not meet the standards. Motion (H. Bertilson/N. Sloboda) to request the Personnel Council to bring forward these nine sets of department rules to the Faculty Senate as soon as possible and to request that the other six sets of department rules be forwarded to the Personnel Council by October 1 and for the Personnel Council to forward to the Faculty Senate as they complete their review.
UNDERGRADUATE ACADEMIC AFFAIRS COUNCIL. Three agenda items are planned for the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Council report:
a. Excess Credit Policy
b. German/Spanish minors for Elementary Education
c. Department of Visual Arts Course Sequence for Arts Administration
OLD BUSINESS AND OTHER REPORTS:
a. NCA Working Groups
b. Open Discussion on Faculty Conduct
