FACULTY SENATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
April 5, 2005

PRESENT: Hal Bertilson, David Carroll, Tim Cummings, Martha Einerson, Nick Sloboda, Gloria Toivola, Gail Craig, Suzanne Griffith, Maria Cuzzo, Terry Wasti, Tammy Fanning, and Shanti Lakhan.
RESOLUTION FROM THE COMMITTEE ON WOMEN'S ISSUES TO PROVIDE APPROPRIATE ACCOMMODATIONS FOR PREGNANCY AND CHILDBIRTH: S. Griffith presented the resolution and its rationale. Motion (H. Bertilson/N. Sloboda) to endorse the Resolution to Provide Appropriate Accommodations for Pregnancy and Childbirth passed unanimously.
MEDIATION TASK FORCE: Senator M. Cuzzo introduced the purpose and rationale of the proposed resolution and revisions to UW-Sup 6.01 and UW-Sup 6.02. T. Fanning described the history of the information processes. There were eight Mediation sessions this year attended by fifty different people. T. Wasti emphasized that this is a voluntary process. It is not intended to replace any part of the formal process. It gives us an alternative. S. Lakhan described the deliberations of the task force including assessment of policies elsewhere. Senator Cuzzo reviewed the two policies. Motion (G. Toivola/M. Einerson) to refer the policies to the Personnel Council for review on an expedited basis.

ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS: Recommendations regarding Mathematics Core Requirement and Placement Tests in the General Education Program was referred to the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Council.
STUDENT RETENTION STRATEGIES--EARLY ASSESSMENT FOR STUDENT SUCCESS: Student retention strategies--early assessment for student success was referred to the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Council.
S&E EQUITY: S&E equity was discussed. It was felt that this problem is best dealt with by the administration and department chairs.
PBRC POSITION ON FACULTY DEVELOPMENT POSITION: The PBRC position on the Faculty Development Position was distributed to the Chancellor.
