MINUTES
FACULTY SENATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
March 2, 2004
PRESENT: Hal Bertilson, Tim Cummings, Terri Kronzer, Peter Nordgren, Nick Sloboda, Joel Sipress, and Gloria Toivola.
MINUTES: Motion (T. Cummings/N. Sloboda) to approve Executive Committee minutes for October 7, November 4, December 2, and February 3 were approved.
MEETING TIMES: Motion (H. Bertilson/T. Cummings) to set the Faculty Senate meeting times to 2:30 PM was approved. Motion (N. Sloboda/T. Cummings) to set the Executive Committee meetings times to 2:30 PM was approved.
UW/WTCS TRANSFER PLAN AND IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS: The Executive Committee reviewed the draft letter to Provost Prior. Suggestions were made to add that we as the Wisconsin Public Liberal Arts University have a particular interest in this question. Also it is important that persons teaching a course to be transferred have degrees in the field of that course.
STUDENT EVALUATION ISSUES: The question discussed was who has access to student evaluations?
MENTORING: The importance of raising the visibility of the mentoring program was discussed. The Faculty Mentoring Program will develop a proposal for consideration by the Faculty Senate.
GRADUATE COURSE PROPOSAL AND TIME LINE: Graduate course proposal and time line will be an agenda item.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. NCA progress report.
2. PBRC recommendations for criteria in filling faculty positions.
3. Faculty status for academic staff.
4. Substitute grade appeal policy.
5. Faculty conduct. Inappropriate faculty conduct was discussed. J. Sipress will send a memo to the faculty indicating that this question will be on the agenda and suggestions are requested. Faculty will be encouraged to provide concrete suggestions to your Senator. The University Code of Conduct will be attached to the memo. The memo will point out that such issues arise on any campus. The Executive Committee also agreed that dissemination of policies that deal with appropriate conduct needs to be widely distributed.
