FACULTY SENATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
January 20, 2005
RSC 20, 1:00 PM
PRESENT: Hal Bertilson, David Carroll, Martha Einerson, Nick Sloboda, Gloria Toivola, Terri Kronzer, and Gail Craig.
HPS FACULTY SENATORS: The Department of History, Politics and Society and divided into two departments. Gloria (2003-2006) will continue as the Senator for the new department of Politics, Law, and Justice. Marshall Johnson (2005-2006) will be the Senator for the other department. No name has been established for the second department.
TRAVEL POLICIES:Travel policies were discussed. The Executive Committee will present the Faculty Senate a proposed policy.
COMBINED PROMOTION/TENURE COMMITTEE: In order to develop policy in a systematic, step-by-step process, the Executive Committee will forward personnel policies to the Provost before addressing his request to consider combining promotion and tenure into one centralized committee.
MANDATORY INFORMATION FOR COURSE SYLLABI: No action taken.
RESCHEDULING FINAL EXAMS: Policy language in the Handbook and Class Schedule do not agree regarding who has the authority to change final exam times/dates. The Undergraduate Academic Affairs Council will be asked to review, clarify, and propose a consistent policy.
REPORTS/PROPOSALS: All reports and proposals for the Faculty Senate agenda and minutes must be submitted to the Faculty Senate Secretary in electronic form.
NCA IMPLEMENTATION GROUP NOMINEES: Nominees were reviewed by the Executive Committee.
SENATE CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE: S. Griffith, M. Einerson, N. Sloboda, G. Toivola, D. Carroll will talk to faculty chairing the councils in order to give them an opportunity to be part of the Senate Charter Review Committee.
OTHER: A letter to Governor Doyle will be drafted by Senator Toivola regarding UW-Superior budget concerns. Faculty Chair Carroll will draft a letter to President Reilly thanking him for meeting with us.
