Minutes of the Meeting of 3/29/05

Meeting convened in Erlanson 304 noon. Members present: Chip Beal, Chris Kemnitz, Cindy Graham, Rhoda Robinson, Greg Trudeau,

Minutes of past meetings unanimously approved (Graham motion/Kemnitz seconded).

Pay Distribution Guidelines

At the request of D. Carroll the Council discussed the pay distribution guidelines – historical and current and report to Senate by this afternoon.

This issue has not been discussed by the Personnel Council in the recent past (at least the last 6 years).

A number of questions were raised including:

o How is the money distributed from system – lump sum or percentages allocated only

o How do other campuses handle the pay distribution

o Are there specific guidelines from system

An attempt was made to contact faculty and administrative personnel who might answer some of the questions but none were available. These questions and others would require time for research and could be undertaken if the Faculty requested.

The Council recommends that:

Unclassified staff receiving solid (satisfactory) ratings should receive 2/3 of the percentage salary increase available; unclassified staff receiving meritorious ratings should receive an additional 1/3 of the percentage salary increase available, for a total of 100% of the available salary increase.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at noon in Erlanson 304. The agenda will include a review of all outstanding issues and construction of a plan to wrap them up.
