FACULTY SENATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
February 4, 2003
RSC 22A, 3 PM
PRESENT: Joel Sipress, Greg Moore, Nick Sloboda, Gloria Toivola, Hal Bertilson, and Suzanne Griffith (ex officio).
DISTINGUISHED LECTURER COMMITTEE: Dean Keefe has requested the appointment of a three-member, ad hoc, distinguished lecturer committee. J. Sipress will submit a call for volunteers.
SPCC REPORT: The SPCC report has been released. PBRC will provide their reaction in time for the Senate meeting.
FEBRUARY SENATE NEW BUSINESS AGENDA.
a. Motion (J. Sipress/G. Toivola) to recommend to Senate that registration holds for failure to complete electronic portfolio be removed was approved.
b. Motion (J. Sipress/H. Bertilson) to recommend to Senate a change in field trip policy was approved.

Current language--Group absences for both off and on-campus activities, such as field trips, music clinics, and athletic trips must be cleared with the appropriate administrator and a list of students participating be made available for publication. The list of students should be submitted to the Registrar's Office. Students absent for university approved activities should be excused from class and allowed to make up missed course work. It is the student's responsibility to notify the instructors prior to the absence.

Recommended that the last two sentences be replaced with--Students absent for university approved activities will be excused from class and allowed to make up missed course work. Instructors may require students to complete a supplementary assignment in lieu of class attendance. It is the student's responsibility to directly notify the instructors prior to the absence.

c. Recommendation from the Provost that the mandated syllabus language be simplified to the following:
  1. The University of Wisconsin-Superior is dedicated to a safe, supportive and nondiscriminatory learning environment. It is is the responsibility of all undergraduate and graduate students to familiarize themselves with University policies regarding Special Accommodations, Academic Misconduct, Religious Beliefs Accommodation, Discrimination and Absence for University Sponsored Events. For details please refer to the Undergraduate and Graduate Timetables; the "Rights and Responsibilities" section of the Undergraduate Bulletin; the Academic Requirements and Policies and the Facilities and Services sections of the Graduate bulletin; and the "Student Academic Disciplinary Procedures (UWS Chapter 14); and the "Student Nonacademic Disciplinary Procedures" (UWS Chapter 17).
