Domestic Violence Awareness March

Assemble at the Peace Pole (near the greenhouse)
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This march commemorates the victims of domestic violence and engages in consciousness raising.
5:00 PM – Assemble for a brief rally at the Peace Pole (near the greenhouse) on the grounds of the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus and join the march to the government Center Atrium at 1316 North 14th Street. 
Breaking the Silence Remembrance Ceremony to remember the victims in Wisconsin who have died as a result of domestic violence. A poem will be read and the names of the 49 victims (Wisconsin 2002) vwill be remembered.
Presenters to follow will be "Everyday Heroes" who have had first hand experience with domestic violence and its effects on real people.
Refreshments, sponsorship or information displays provided: Refreshments will be served following the presentations and the Clothesline Project will be on display.  The Clothesline Project, inspired by the nationally known AIDS quilt, was started in 1990 to bring attention to the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault.  The Project utilizes t-shirts, which portray visual messages from victims of violence and tell a story of how violence has affected their lives.
