1. According to the attack-instigated aggression research of O'Leary & Dengerink (1973), when someone holds the capacity for massive retaliation over someone else which person controls (inhibits) his/her aggression? Do you think these laboratory findings have expression in international, inter-state violence and war? Explain. Give an example. (lecture)
2. Imagine you are at party with some military personnel who have just returned from Iraq and you overhear one of them describing Iraqi people as lawless, irrational, superstitious, and untrustworthy. Using cognitive dissonance theory explain what might have caused that military person to have made those derogatory attributions. Be sure to use the language of cognitive dissonance theory in your answer. (Lecture)
3. Imagine you are an interrogator for the U. S. Army. During a recent interrogation, you yelled and pushed around the detainee. Using cognitive dissonance theory, explain how you will treat that detainee the next time you interrogate him? Be sure to use the language of cognitive dissonance in your answer.
