| Bill Moyer’s NOW 5-1-04 The March for Women’s Lives (4-25-04) Tape 82 1:53:40 - 2:04:30 |
| Bill Moyer’s chose to include a segment of the 4-25-04 program on The March for Women’s Lives because the press reports on religious groups opposing abortion, but does not report on religious people who support choice. Bill Moyer’s interviewed Rev. Carlton Veazey, the founder of the Religious Coalition for Choice. Some of the quotes we heard from these religious leaders in the interview follows: The State should not force a women to bring a child into the world against her will. Jesus freed women to make choices. Abortion is a choice. No one is pro abortion. The religious right has created a box that is too small. There needs to be justice for women and justice for the children that women do have. In the scripture Jesus dealt with women with great respect. Red carnations were left at a site in memory of the lives of women who were lost to abortions that killed them. Religious leaders argued for free will to make the best decision one can make, to lift one up. If you don’t have free choice, you are less than human. The moral right of a woman to make her own decision. Where women are safe to make their own choices. The power of religion should be kept separate from the power of the state. |
