Psychology of Women
10:00 AM Tuesday and Thursday
Fall 2005
Feminism believes in working toward a world in which there is equal opportunity for women and men. This course discusses the stories of women’s lives and reviews those cultural beliefs and institutional barriers to equality. Feminism values diversity and includes considerations of women of color, women of various classes, and women around the world. The stories of women and feminist theories are dramatized by a series of guest speakers and provocative videos. Plenty of opportunity is provided for small group discussions. All lectures, video notes, and notes from guest speakers are available to students on the web. Dr. Bertilson is a feminist who has been teaching this course since 1980. The course may be taken for Women’s Studies or Psychology credit and will provide an important perspective for those who intend to go into counseling, teaching, management, government, politics, and anyone wishing to better understand what must be done to provide equal opportunity for our sisters, daughters, and friends worldwide.
