| Community Standards for Child Abuse and Neglect in Douglas County April 23, 2002 |
|
The Douglas County Council on Child Protection is composed of members of several Douglas Co. agencies, county schools, mental health groups, and parent volunteers. It meets monthly at the Superior Public Library (1st Tuesday of the month [except January and July]). Its mission is: To encourage child safety by promoting awareness of child protection issues and resources". During the month of April (Child Abuse Prevention Month) the Council sponsors several events to increase awareness of the impact of abuse and neglect. In 2001-2, the Council conducted a community survey to gauge standards of acceptable behavior in areas such as child supervision, child discipline, and dating. The survey, which was adapted from a survey used in Lake County, MN, is available online at: Community Standards Survey. The results of the survey as presented in a PowerPoint presentation April 23, 2002 at the University of Wisconsin - Superior can be found at Community Standards Survey Results. An analysis of the results will be written by the UW-Superior School Psychology Program and given to the Council in May and a report will be sent to the Douglas County Department of Human Services in June, 2002. This report is available online in Adobe Acrobat by clicking on the following link Douglas County Council on Child Protection Report, or it can be obtained by contacting Ms Rhoda Nagorski, Social Worker, at 715-394-1487. |
